Raw Honey
Nectar Meadows Apiaries is proud to offer filtered raw honey by the pint, quart, and gallon. The honey we offer is produced from many different floral sources. The earliest source is usually maple, then there are many others like pin cherry, willow, and crab apple. Next begin blooms of raspberry, blackberry, clover and alfalfa. Summer blooms are black locust, basswood, star thistle, and milk weed. Fall brings abundant golden rod, yet clover and alfalfa are still bountiful. I like to make several harvest each season. Each kind of plant produces a unique flavor of it own and I try to capture these different flavors by making as many different harvests as possible. I am told my spring and summer honey is the best of any beekeeper around.
-What is honey?
Honey is made mostly from nectar secreted by flowers. Honey bees gather this sweet substance and bring it back to their colony, add enzymes to it, and then fan out excess moisture. When the bees have done their magic the result is honey which if stored correctly and not allowed to absorb moisture, will keep almost indefinitely.
